Class 4H
Manchester Museum
Egyptian Studies Trip

map

On Thursday 16th September 1997 class 4H and 4C of Manchester Road Primary School paid an all-day visit to the Manchester Museum, as part of the Egyptian Studies we are undertaking this term.

On arrival at the museum, we were introduced to the world of egyptology by Mrs. Millward, a lecturer from the university, who gave us a talk and slideshow on ancient egypt. After that she showed us some ancient egyptian artifacts that were over 5,000 years old, and we were allowed to touch and examine most of them; we even tried on masks of egyptian gods that the museum had made.

We were then divided into small groups with a leader, and issued with worksheets, so that we could tour the museum and answer questions on, or draw pictures of ancient egyptian artifacts, jewellery, everyday life, hieroglyphs, death and the afterlife and religion. After completing our worksheets we were then allowed to visit the museum souvenir shop, which sells such things as papyrus, semi-precious stones, badges, replica egyptian artifacts and jewellery amongst other things.

There was so much to see, and so much to do, that one day was not enough to take it all in, so I've talked mum and dad into going back for another visit at autumn half term.
