Saltdoh Recipe

Ingredients

  • 200ml (1/3 pint) water
  • 300g (10oz) plain flour
  • 300g (10oz) salt
  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

Method

Mix it all together. Hard, ain't it?

Oven setting required to harden your finished artwork - 180 degrees celsius, 350 degrees fahrenheit, gas mark 4.
Takes about 20 minutes.
You could add a few drops of food coloring to the dough.
You can paint your art with poster paints and seal it on with a coat of clear varnish.

Papier Mache

  • 8 tablespoons of flour
  • 150ml (1/4 pint) water
  • Newspaper

Method

Mix the flour and water into a nice thick icky glue. Dip the strips of newspaper in the mix, and squeeze out the excess, then apply to your frame.
Your frame could be a blown up balloon, or an empty bottle or can, or any disposable container.

For a mash variation, soak the newspaper for 24 hours, then boil, stirring unto a pulp. Cool, strain, add pva glue and wallpaper paste. Mix well.
When you've covered your container, and your work has completely dried out, you can use poster paints to decorate it or attach other decorations to it, and seal it using clear varnish or shellac.

Make your own watercolor paints

Method

Mix the vinegar and baking powder in a small bowl, and when the baking powder's stopped fizzing, add the cornflour and glycerine, then stir in the coloring. If it looks too gloopy and thick, add a bit more water. Store in a tightly lidded container.
