HISTORY

The Clayton & Droylsden Dramatic Society was founded in 1931 and was originally located in a Scout Hut in Clayton. From these humble beginnings the society thrived even through the war years until it moved to rented premises over a bank in 1950, which the society set out converting into a small Theatre. Over the next two decades various improvements were carried out and the society went from strength to strength until they were forced to relocate as the bank were selling their premises. Seeing the need to move forward, the society grasped the opportunity to secure its very own premises and with help from Tameside Council took out a mortgage on the Methodist Church and Schoolroom on Market Street, Droylsden. So, in 1969 we put out roots down in our present location and Droylsden Little Theatre was born. During this period the society became one of the founder members of the Greater Manchester Drama Federation and have won many awards for its contributions to Amateur Dramatics.
